Clinic is for first-time wrestlers, grades K–1 — and second graders with no experience are often a better fit here than on White Team. This is where kids learn stance, basic movement, safe falling, and how to follow a whistle before anything competitive is introduced. It's about comfort on the mat and following coach direction as much as technique.

White Team is grades 2–4 — elementary to intermediate instruction with friendly, practice-based “Jamboree” competition, King of the Mat matches against other towns, and Future Stars matches paired by skill and aggression level. Blue Team is grades 5–8 and wrestles Tri-County dual matches against other towns plus the year-end Tri-County tournament, with individual tournaments for wrestlers when they're ready and levels ranging from beginner to highly competitive. Placement is ultimately determined by our coaching staff based on each wrestler's experience and readiness, not by grade alone.

The program is designed to pace athletes to their own skill level — a second grader in their first season isn't grouped the same as a second grader who's wrestled for two years, even at the same grade level. No wrestler is ever forced into a match or tournament they aren't ready for. Confidence and readiness come before competition.

Unofficial, no referees, no scores kept. Multiple matches happen simultaneously across the mat against several other teams — it feels more like a supervised scrimmage than an event. Coaches actively watch and assist during matches, sometimes stopping to correct positioning or talk a kid through a scramble in real time. Zero pressure: nothing is on the line, so kids can try a new move, lose without it "counting," and build mat awareness without fear of letting the team down. A great low-pressure entry point for novice wrestlers.

Official matches with referees — the first real taste of "counted" competition for most kids. Matchups are based on skill and aggression level, not just weight or age. Coaches from both sides work together beforehand to pair similar skill profiles. It's the bridge between in-house friendly competition (KOM's) and full varsity-style competition (Tri-County).

The "varsity" of our youth program — our highest level of competition. Our top wrestlers compete for spots on this team; it's earned, not automatic. It signals to families and the wrestler that they're performing at the top tier of the program.

Winter registration is open through the Randolph Recreation Youth Programs page, where each team registers separately — Clinic (grades K–1), White Team (grades 2–4) and Blue Team (grades 5–8). Registration closes December 30, or earlier if a team fills. All three are described side by side on our Program page.

Yes. Our Intro to Wrestling Clinic is free and runs Sunday, November 15 from 10:30–11:30 AM at the Randolph High School Aux Gym. It's open to boys and girls in grades K–8 and their parents, and no experience is required — you'll meet the coaches and active wrestlers, see technique demonstrations, and get a 30-minute workout in. Wear sneakers, shorts or sweats, and a t-shirt. Randolph residents only, no waitlist. Register on the Randolph Recreation Youth Programs page.

Wrestlers practice in a t-shirt and shorts and compete in a singlet. Your family buys four things: headgear, wrestling shoes, and the shorts and t-shirts for practice. Headgear is required at practice as well as at matches. The program provides the Randolph Rams singlet at no cost, so you never need to buy one. Practices start in mid-November and run through early March. White Team and Blue Team practice at the Randolph High School Wrestling Room on weeknights — White 6:00–7:30 PM, Blue 6:00–8:00 PM — and White Team also has Saturday practice and competition. Clinic practices Saturday mornings and starts after Thanksgiving; time and location are still being finalized.

Ram Slam is our Preseason Wrestling Annual, held Sunday, October 11, 2026 at the Randolph High School Gymnasium. It's an open tournament for grades K–8 powered by WAR Zone live pairing — a great way to shake off the rust before the season starts. See the Ram Slam page →
